-In Furtado et al.’s (2010) article on collective intelligence in law enforcement, they focused on the utility of anonymous mass collaboration through sites like WikiCrimes. Ideally, this would help circumvent some of the current obstacles in law enforcement, which includes promoting greater transparency between police departments and the public, which would in turn encourage more citizen interest and cooperation. This would then allow agencies to collect and analyze information from a larger sample size and address crimes that are problematic for being under-reported. One main of the issues that they discussed in regards to using online mass collaborations is the lack of credibility that comes with relying on anonymous sources. The only issue that may arise is collecting data from sites that promote extremely controversial ideologies or cover taboo subjects as those sites generally attract the kind of criminals that are destined to end up in federal prison. Some department chairs will deny any investigation towards those sites as they feel it is beyond their capabilities and that would rather not gamble with the department’s reputation and bring unwanted scrutiny by the media. -Another concern that prevents law enforcement agencies from investing in social media intelligence, depending on what issues they are planning to tackle, is the sheer amount of raw data

Organizational Culture s Impact On Organizational...

Organizational culture’s impact on organizational effectiveness Jeff W. Bruns BA 600 – Organizational Behavior in Practice Theoretical Application Paper Dr. James Caldwell To define organizational culture we must first understand what a culture is in relation to an organization. Culture can be defined as the acquisition of knowledge that individuals may use to try to interpret experiences and facilitate a social behavior that is appropriate (Deem, DeLotell Kelly, 2015). Eaton Kilby (2015) examines culture as an entity that is always with us, it is all around us. It is created and expanded by our constant interactions with others. The term culture has been used in relation to every part of any society, however when we relate the understanding of culture to an organizational perspective, it has the ability to evolve. The culture of an organization usually revolves around its leader. The leader (CEO, President, etc.) sets the scene for his/her particular belief for a cultural direction or change. Additionally, the leader can utilize his/her ability to manipulate the direction of the organization to create, manage or even destroy the culture. The leader has the ability to influence organizational culture, however his/her ability is not complete in its influence and there are a multitude of group learning process that also feed into the culture of any organization (Taheri, Monshizadeh Kordiani, 2015). Schein (2010) believes that a culture hasShow MoreRelatedEssay on Applied Business Research Case Study935 Words   |  4 Pagesresearch studies add to the understanding of leadership theories and the effects on organizational climate and culture. Wu- Tang vs. the Industry free essay sample

The Industry. Hip-hop Is a form of expression mainly used In the African-American community to express feelings about topics that matter to everyday life and the situations these artists often found in. In late 1992, when the Www-Tang Clan was formed, the group was no different than any other artists that had come before them. Now regarded as one of the most Influential hip-hop groups of all time because of their unorthodox style, the Www;Tang Clan didnt get very much respect from the major record impasses early in their career. It wasnt until they released an independent single titled Protect Yea Neck. The song contained a very interesting message, a message which Is often overlooked. However, It is clear that with the song Protect Yea Neck the Www;Tang Clan was meant to express their resentment toward the record labels who would not sign them to a major deal because of their musical style, despite their popularity they gained in the underground hip-hop circuit, and there are two verses In particular that make this apparent. We will write a custom essay sample on Wu- Tang vs. the Industry or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The first time this message appears in the song Is In Method Mans verse. Here one can clearly tell that he Is trying to make his resentment toward the major record companies known. For example, in one line of his verse Method Man says they putting shame in the game. Here he is referring to the rappers that the major record labels were signing and putting into the mainstream hip-hop circuit, which Is referred to as the game in this case. He felt that these other rappers were not as good as the Www-Tang Clan, that they did not serve to be signed to these deals, and were therefore bringing shame to the hip- hop industry.Another instance where Method Mans displeasure for the major record labels is made clear is when he says, And like Fame, my styles live forever. In this case Method Man Is referring to the unorthodox style In which the www;Tang clan rapped. It was because of their unorthodox style that the Www-Tang Clan was unable to get a record deal early on in their career. By making this comment Method Man is telling the doubters, which implied to be the record labels, that the style of the Www- Tang Clan was one that would be loved by their audience for gene rations. Method Mans verse is the first verse to make the message of Protect Yea Neck apparent in the song, but there is another verse that builds an even stronger case for showing that Protect Yea Neck Is a song that was meant to show the Www-Tang Clans unhappiness with the major record companies. The second verse that really shows that the Www-Tang Clan was trying to send a message to record labels that would not sign them is GAZA or the Genius verse. GAZA wows his unhappiness at the beginning of his verse by saying The Www Is too slamming for these Cold Killing labels some anti had hits since I seen Aunt Mabel. Here GAZA is commenting on how the record labels were just too scared to sign the Www-Tang Clan, and the rappers they were singing werent producing good songs. Later on in his verse GAZA continues criticize the major record labels as well as the artists they signed by saying, First of all, whos your AR a mountain climber who plays an electric guitar but he dont know the meaning of d ope when hes joking for a suit and tie rap thats cleaner than a bar of soap. GAZA is implying that 1 OFF instead perpetrators who had no real talent. After listing to Sagas verse, it is clear that Protect Yea Neck was meant to express the Www-Tang Clans resentment towards the major record labels that refused at the beginning of their hip-hop career. After listening to Protect Yea Neck by the Www-Tang Clan, it is clear that the song was meant to was meant to express the groups resentment toward the major record companies that would not sign them. In particular if you look at the verses of GAZA and Method Man this specific message becomes clear. Both artists speak about how the major labels were putting out artists that didnt have as much talent or potential Www-Tang Clan, and that the Www-Tang style of rap was better than what was being played on the mainstream hip-hop circuit. It turned out that The Www-Tang Clan was correct. The group was signed to a major deal shortly after the release of Protect Yea Neck, and went on to become one of the most influential and successful groups in hip-hop history.

Autonomy Vs. Paternalism In Mental Health Treatment Essay Example For Students

Autonomy Vs. Paternalism In Mental Health Treatment Essay Autonomy Vs. Paternalism In Mental Health Treatment Essay The assignment for this Ethics class was to review Mr. Jacobs treatment, as described by the New York State Commission on Quality of Care for the Mentally disabled (1994). The class was further asked to comment on the major issues for each of the three perspectives. The agencies, family and review board were to be included. This student will begin with a fourth perspective; that of Mr. Gordon. In the Matter of Jacob Gordon (1994), is the story of the last eight years of a psychiatrically disabled mans life. Mr. Gordon appeared to vacillate between striving for autonomy and accepting the support of his family. Unfortunately, it appeared by this account that the families support was not synonymous with autonomy. It did not appear that Mr. Gordon had ever desired or sought agency intervention for himself. Mr. Gordons association with the mental health system appeared to be marked by power and control issues. Consumers/ex-patients often report a feeling of invisibility; they sense that their views and desires do not matter (Carling, 1995, p.79 ). The commissions report (1995) spoke of several incidences where Mr. Gordon eluded to his desire for autonomy. Mr. Gordon did not wish to live in a supervised setting. Mr. Gordon did not wish to attend group day treatment settings. Mr. Gordon did not wish to use medication in the treatment of his mental health disorder. Without medication his behavior was deemed unacceptable and did not permit him the opportunity to have any of these choices. Choice is a right-not a privilege to be afforded by good behavior (Penny, 1994, p. 29). Mr. Gordons right of choice was limited even though he lived in his apartment independently. The condition of his apartment was scrutinized. His medication was closely monitored; sometimes to the degree that he was directed to leave his home to receive medication that was given to him crushed, in an attempt to insure its ingestion. Even peoples liberties in a highly controlled board and care home may be scarcely greater than in a hospital ward (Rubenstien, 1994, p.54). In Mr. Gordons case even within the sanctity of his own home, his liberties were scarcely greater than in a hospital ward. Other than his autonomy the second issue for Mr. Gordon appears to be the need for safety and support. For this, Mr. Gordon turned to his family. The report (1994) points out that Mr. Gordon requested his mother be limited in her ability to access personal information. He continued to need her support and assistance although this met she continued to be overly involved in his life. It was his mother he turned to when he had problems with a roommate. It was his mother who was utilized when Mr. Gordon was less compliant. It was Mr. Gordons family who assured that he had continued mental health counseling and services. It was also Mr. Gordons family who appeared to be the focal point of any plans for Mr. Gordon. .. .expectations, soon to be dashed by programs more devoted to servicing neurotic families than people with schizophrenia (Rubenstien, 1994, p.55). Mr. Gordon remained safe and close to his family by relinquishing his autonomy. Mr. Gordons safety was the most important issue for the family. Secondarily to his safety, Mr. Gordons family wished him to have the opportunity to participate in programming that would assist in his wellness. For Mr. Gordons family, wellness seemed to equate to a standard of behavior that his mother personally viewed as normal. The family were not bound to any code of ethics or compelled to understand their biases or prejudices in their sons case. Certainly, to say that the family operated on the premise of paternalism is an understatement. Ethically, the Gordons believed that they were the most justified to speak in the best interests of their son. The energy that the Gordons put into advocating for what they believed, was in their sons best interest, is a testimony to the depth of the feelings they had for their son. .uee68c630e2ac34f48ab2c399f77aac0b , .uee68c630e2ac34f48ab2c399f77aac0b .postImageUrl , .uee68c630e2ac34f48ab2c399f77aac0b .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uee68c630e2ac34f48ab2c399f77aac0b , .uee68c630e2ac34f48ab2c399f77aac0b:hover , .uee68c630e2ac34f48ab2c399f77aac0b:visited , .uee68c630e2ac34f48ab2c399f77aac0b:active { border:0!important; } .uee68c630e2ac34f48ab2c399f77aac0b .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uee68c630e2ac34f48ab2c399f77aac0b { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uee68c630e2ac34f48ab2c399f77aac0b:active , .uee68c630e2ac34f48ab2c399f77aac0b:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uee68c630e2ac34f48ab2c399f77aac0b .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uee68c630e2ac34f48ab2c399f77aac0b .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uee68c630e2ac34f48ab2c399f77aac0b .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uee68c630e2ac34f48ab2c399f77aac0b .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uee68c630e2ac34f48ab2c399f77aac0b:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uee68c630e2ac34f48ab2c399f77aac0b .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uee68c630e2ac34f48ab2c399f77aac0b .uee68c630e2ac34f48ab2c399f77aac0b-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uee68c630e2ac34f48ab2c399f77aac0b:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Gender Bias in the courtroom Essay The agencies primary issues appeared to be their liability and responsibility. Looking at the commissions report and attached responses from agencies (1995), it appears as though all of the agencies and practitioners involved were overly respectful of the involvement of Mr. Gordons family. This over-involvement with Mr. Gordons mother was understandable when it was disclosed that she had complained to state officials, whenever agencies did not respond in a way that she believed to .

Yin Yang School Essays - Chinese Philosophy, Taoist Cosmology

Yin Yang School There is a tree that I know. It is a tall tree, and has been in existence for many years. The tree was there before the building that stands next to it. When the building was built, the tree was left standing and has adapted itself around the intrusion of the building. When I look at it though, I see more than most people do. I have spent many years with this tree and know every knot on it, and every branch that it has. When I sit back and look at it from a distance, there is a perfect line that can be drawn up the trunk of the tree, and when that line is discovered, there is a perfect balance in the tree. The tree is nature, and the building is man, and though they are competing for the same space at the same time, there appears to be an understanding between the two of them. This balance that lies within this single tree is what the Chinese yin-yang symbol seems to recognize, where others may not. That there is a balance within everything and it is when this balance is understood a nd acknowledged that there can be harmony. The yin yang school was developed with the idea of balance within. The aftereffects of this school is present throughout many different areas of Eastern philosophy, and its reach touches Taoism and Buddhism and its influences are present in many of the great works that rule the Eastern religions and philosophies. The most interesting part of this school is that there is very little written on it, but its influence is everywhere. The union of man and nature, and the necessity of this understanding is key in comprehending the ideas that exist in this way of thinking. There is no official founder of the school, and while Tsou Yen is often associated with the school, there is evidence of this way of thinking present in other earlier works1. The essential theory behind the yin and the yang is that there are equal and opposing forces that control the physical and metaphysical world. In locating the balance, there is enlightenment and understanding. This balance that exists within all thing s can provide an understanding of how the world works and mans place in it. In further accepting that there needs to be a balance between man and nature, there can be a harmonious co-existence as well. The Yin Yang school works in correspondence with the Five Agents. The theory is that there is a natural co-existence of man and nature, and all that is a flow or harmony that exists within nature. It is an elemental theory that proposes that all things and events are products of two elements, forces or principles: yin, which is negative, passive, weak, and destructive, and yang, which is positive, active, strong, and constructive2. The influences of the yin yang school are vast. What is interesting though, is that despite its importance, there is very little written in it. Tsou Yens work has been destroyed, and all that remains is a brief overview of his life in the Book of Changes. The Yin Yang school emerged at roughly the same time that the theory of the Five Agents arose. By Tsou Yens time, the two concepts, which [have] much in common, were thought of together he is usually credited as the one who combined the two independent currents into one3. The influence of the Yin Yang sc hool is seen throughout various Chinese classics has a major impact on Taoist thought. Lao Tzu and Chuang Tzu make reference to the idea of a natural balance throughout their texts. This theory of yin and yang is also seen in military texts. Sun Tzus The Art of War uses theories of balance, and uses Taoist thought in its pages. The origin of the symbol of the yin yang has a number of different theories surrounding it. The two sides of yin and yang are thought to have originally designated the shady side and the sunny side of a hill, and gradually came to suggest the way in which one thing overshadows another in some aspect of their relationship4. The role

The History of the Thermometer

The History of the Thermometer Thermometers measure temperature, by using materials that change in some way when they are heated or cooled. In a mercury or alcohol thermometer, the liquid expands as it is heated and contracts when it is cooled, so the length of the liquid column is longer or shorter depending on the temperature. Modern thermometers are calibrated in standard temperature units such as Fahrenheit (used in the United States) or Celsius (used in Canada), or Kelvin (used mostly by scientists). What is a Thermoscope? Before there was the thermometer, there was the earlier and closely related thermoscope, best described as a thermometer without a scale. A thermoscope only showed the differences in temperatures, for example, it could show something was getting hotter. However, the thermoscope did not measure all the data that a thermometer could, for example, an exact temperature in degrees. Early History Several inventors invented a version of the thermoscope at the same time. In 1593, Galileo Galilei invented a rudimentary water thermoscope, which for the first time, allowed temperature variations to be measured. Today, Galileos invention is called the Galileo Thermometer, even though by definition it was really a thermoscope. It was a container filled with bulbs of varying mass, each with a temperature marking, the buoyancy of water changes with temperature, some of the bulbs sink while others float, the lowest bulb indicated what temperature it was. In 1612, the Italian inventor Santorio Santorio became the first inventor to put a numerical scale on his thermoscope. It was perhaps the first crude clinical thermometer, as it was designed to be placed in a patients mouth for temperature taking. Neither Galileos nor Santorios instruments were very accurate. In 1654, the first enclosed liquid-in-a-glass thermometer was invented by the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Ferdinand II. The Duke used alcohol as his liquid. However, it was still inaccurate and used no standardized scale. Fahrenheit Scale: Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit What can be considered the first modern thermometer, the mercury thermometer with a standardized scale, was invented by Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit in 1714. Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit was the German physicist who invented the alcohol thermometer in 1709, and the mercury thermometer in 1714. In 1724, he introduced the standard temperature scale that bears his name- Fahrenheit Scale- that was used to record changes in temperature in an accurate fashion. The Fahrenheit scale divided the freezing and boiling points of water into 180 degrees. 32 °F was the freezing point of water and 212 °F was the boiling point of water. 0 °F was based on the temperature of an equal mixture of water, ice, and salt. Fahrenheit based his temperature scale on the temperature of the human body. Originally, the human body temperature was 100 ° F on the Fahrenheit scale, but it has since been adjusted to 98.6 °F. Centigrade Scale: Anders Celsius The Celsius temperature scale is also referred to as the centigrade scale. Centigrade means consisting of or divided into 100 degrees. In 1742, the Celsius scale was invented by Swedish Astronomer Anders Celsius. The Celsius scale has 100 degrees between the freezing point (0 °C) and boiling point (100 °C) of pure water at sea level air pressure. The term Celsius was adopted in 1948 by an international conference on weights and measures. Kelvin Scale: Lord Kelvin Lord Kelvin took the whole process one step further with his invention of the Kelvin Scale in 1848. The Kelvin Scale measures the ultimate extremes of hot and cold. Kelvin developed the idea of absolute temperature, what is called the Second Law of Thermodynamics, and developed the dynamical theory of heat. In the 19th century, scientists were researching what was the lowest temperature possible. The Kelvin scale uses the same units as the Celcius scale, but it starts at Absolute Zero, the temperature at which everything including air freezes solid. Absolute zero is 0 K, which is equal to 273 °C degrees Celsius. When a thermometer was used to measure the temperature of a liquid or of air, the thermometer was kept in the liquid or air while a temperature reading was being taken. Obviously, when you take the temperature of the human body you cant do the same thing. The mercury thermometer was adapted so it could be taken out of the body to read the temperature. The clinical or medical thermometer was modified with a sharp bend in its tube that was narrower than the rest of the tube. This narrow bend kept the temperature reading in place after you removed the thermometer from the patient by creating a break in the mercury column. That is why you shake a mercury medical thermometer before and after you use it, to reconnect the mercury and get the thermometer to return to room temperature. Mouth Thermometers In 1612, the Italian inventor  Santorio Santorio  invented  the mouth thermometer  and perhaps the first crude clinical thermometer. However, it was both bulky, inaccurate, and took too long to get a reading. The first doctors to routinely take the temperature of their patients were: Hermann Boerhaave (1668–1738), Gerard L.B. Van Swieten (1700–1772) founder of the Viennese School of Medicine, and Anton De Haen (1704–1776). These doctors found temperature correlated to the progress of an illness, however, few of their contemporaries agreed, and the thermometer was not widely used. First Practical Medical Thermometer English physician, Sir Thomas Allbutt (1836–1925) invented the first practical medical thermometer used for taking the  temperature  of a person in 1867. It was portable, 6 inches in length and able to record a patients temperature in 5 min. Ear Thermometer Pioneering  biodynamicist  and flight surgeon with the Luftwaffe during World War II, Theodore Hannes Benzinger invented the ear thermometer. David Phillips invented the infrared ear thermometer in 1984. Dr. Jacob Fraden, CEO of Advanced Monitors Corporation, invented the worlds  best-selling ear thermometer, the Thermoscan ® Human Ear Thermometer.

Partnering and Preparing for the Professional Event Essay

Partnering and Preparing for the Professional Event - Essay Example The reporter discusses that "these three elements are an integral part of good leadership as they help to promote goal-oriented path for higher achievement and productive outcome. The empowered decision making is the vital aspect of leaders that highlight their critical thinking that helps to opt for the best course of action. Humility encourages trust building and developing a long-term relationship with the followers. Indeed, for personal and professional growth as the trusted leader, acquisition of knowledge becomes the hugely vital ingredient of good leaders. This not only increases their communication skills but also provides them with critical information for making ethically correct decisions which could influence the larger welfare of their followers. Most importantly, it provides them with the flexibility to embrace change and move forward constructively. Shamir and Eilam’s article was very enlightening that provided me with a new perspective of leaders and leadership. Indeed, one’s life stories hugely influence the personality and ideologies of an individual. A person becomes what he is because of the life that he leads and the lessons that he learns from his experience. The construction of meaning from one’s experience considerably impacts his/ her values and motivates one to evolve goals that conform to one’s values as developed from experience. The incidents and events of life become meaningful elements of authentic leaders who do things because of utter conviction and not because of what is expected of them. I do realize now that I am very much influenced by my past experience."

WHAT IS ARISTOLES VIEW IN VIRTUE Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

WHAT IS ARISTOLES VIEW IN VIRTUE - Essay Example First of all, according to Aristotle, moral virtue is defined by action, or in short, â€Å"we learn by doing them† (II.1). This means that virtue is not inherent in man’s nature but that man possesses the potentiality to practice virtue. Virtues are not an inborn quality of man but rather something that is acquired through practice. In the Ethics, Aristotle gives an example: â€Å"By doing the acts that we do in our transactions with other men we become just or unjust† (II.1). This means that a man is known as just not because of his nature but because he has demonstrated justice to others through his own acts. No one can say someone is good unless that someone has done good deeds. For Aristotle, action must precede virtue and character. It is therefore not that man is doing good things because he is good – but rather man is good because he is doing good things. The idea of defining virtue as an action-based principle would then imply that its demonstration is actually a matter of choice (II.3). The idea of ascribing virtue as subject to man’s choice now becomes the basis of responsibility. Furthermore, Aristotle explains this by showing that virtue concerns itself with pleasures and pains and that it seeks the advantageous, the noble and the pleasant while it seeks to avoid the base, the injurious and the painful (II.3). Therefore, for Aristotle, virtue is something that is utilitarian or pleasure-seeking and pain-avoiding, unlike vice, which is its opposite. Although people would generally equate vice with evil, and virtue with goodness, Aristotle clarifies the meaning of virtue by defining it as a mean between two vices, one an excess and the other a lack: â€Å"Virtue is a kind of mean, since, as we have seen, it aims at what is intermediate† (II.6). For example, in terms of appetite, the vice of lacking pleasure

Product realisation & materials - Assignment Example The most widely used types of springs around the globe are usually the helical compression springs. It can be applied in various practical areas. Due to this fact, appropriate and highly valued designs should be put into dire considerations in due course of the manufacturing process. The basic factors that should be duly looked at include spring’s stability, spring relaxation, and surge in spring, strain energy, fatigue loading and other basic design processes. Laser melting  refers to an  additive manufacturing  process that utilizes 3D  CAD data as the ultimate source of digital information as well as the energy that results in form of high-powered laser beams; towards creation of 3-dimensional metal segments through fusing together of fine  metal particles  (MOHAMED A.E. SALEH and ADHAM E. RAGAB, 2013). The manufacturing process usually starts by first slicing the  file data into a number of layers that often revolves between twenty to a hundred micrometres in terms of thickness, hence establishing a 2D image for each layer (MOHAMED A.E. SALEH and ADHAM E. RAGAB, 2013).The file is then put into a package of file preparation software that hence assigns values, parameters and supports that will allow for file interpretation and built by various types of manufacturing machines. This kind of spring manufacturing process tends to melt the thin layers of the fine metal particles that are distributed evenly by use of a coating mechanism. This often involves the act of fastening a substrate plate that usually exists in a metallic nature, into an indexing table moving in a vertical axis. The entire process takes place within a chamber that contains a tightly controlled atmospheric nature of an inert gas. After the constant distribution of each and every layer, each geometric slice of 2D layer is fused through selective application of a highly-powered laser beam. The applied laser energy is often more intense to

Human services Framework in USA Healthcare Organisations

Human services Framework in USA Healthcare Organisations Human services framework in the USA and related organizations The human services benefits in the US generally is considered as a consolidation of two significant open and private framework and dependably there is no any exceptional rationality in both of those assets. It mean identified with open wellbeing administrations and rules by the neighborhood, state and administrative level attempt to give astounding wellbeing administrations and private areas, therapeutic suppliers, clinics and facilities are dependably attempt to stay with higher models which executed by the legislative guides and rules. The real issue identified with this distinction is absence of coordination between therapeutic administrations and open wellbeing activities. This contrast bring an additional cost and part of disarray for the individuals to get the same administration with more level expense and perplexity.. Case in point, in 2009 the central government utilized more than three trillion dollars on change of open wellbeing framework and administrations for group parts in diverse divisions like Medicare, Medicaid, CHIPS, gold cards and free group forethought administrations. At the same time, shockingly more than ninety millions US people groups are experiencing nonattendance of protection or high medicinal expenses also (Bodenheimer, 1999). Numerous individuals are whined that they pay the doctors visit expenses more than a few times more than other western nations identified with open wellbeing administrations however the sentiment shows they are truly unsatisfied with their neighborhood open wellbeing administrations and nature of displaying of restorative or preventive projects. Low fulfillment and trouble to get to restorative or preventive administrations particularly for suburb populaces may be identified with absence of coordination between all official wellbeing offices in diverse levels. Obviously, for some individual the holding up time for going to by PCP or other medicinal administration suppliers is shorter contrast with different nations however numerous analysts reason that the nonattendance of protection and trouble to pay the hospital expense is the significant reason for evading doctors facilities or searching for exorbitant restorative administrations. At long last, because of intricacy of medicinal services frameworks in states and regions and distinction in translation of open laws then there is no reasonable and simple methodology to understanding of center capacities for the greater part of the Department of Health Services (DHS) business locales. Still, I have to specify that the US populaces use a lot of cash for therapeutic administrations and open wellbeing administrations and its connected extensions is truly go about as a most questionable allotment of everybody life to handle the complexities of health awareness business locales and its connected exhibitions. ROI and public health marketing ports Effect of ROI after five years investment for public health services ($9/person) America spends $2.7 trillion annually on health care which it is more than any other nations. Too often, the policy for current health care system is more enactive on therapeutic issues of disorders and incidences compare to preventive intervention. For example, related to stop smoking preventive plan, the US spent more than 100 billion dollars of tax payer to enforce cigarettes smoking in public areas and rehabilitation programs by community hospitals. Obesity control programs is another society issues which always associated by other chronic diseases like high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes and chronic joint diseases. In one report by the CDC, obesity control plans associated with more than 60 billion dollars costs for federal government as well. The major question is why the government spent billion dollars to treat the preventable diseases compare to other western countries? May be the reason why is that the public health official mostly focus on treatment than prevention. In addition, due to lack of efficient insurance could not participate in preventive programs likes check blood sugar, blood pressure or regular office visiting. I need to add that the rate of chronic diseases in American is very high like carcinoma, heart stroke, COPD and diabetes mellitus. In a recent report, the mortality rate among American due to chronic diseases are considered as 70% and cost of public health budget for above diseases are approximately more than 70 percent of public health budget. I believe, the current opinion regarding to treatment must be switched to preventive initiatives and need a pervasive approach to change of therapeutic culture to preventive methods. In other hand, by changing policy direction toward to prevention then the public health officials could easily recover a lot of cost to spend the money to build up a very strong infrastructure for nation public health. I am pretty sure that in recent changing the culture toward preventive medicine and educating plans could save a lot of budget and lives and divert to cover all community members by strong insurance plans and increasing health service standards. Key findings related to changing policy toward preventive initiative are: -A 2011 study published in Health Affairs found that increased spending by local public health departments can save lives currently lost to preventable illnesses.7 -Researchers mapped spending by local public health agencies from 1995 through 2005 with preventable mortality rates in each agency’s respective jurisdiction. The study found that on average, local public health spending rose from $35 per person in year 1993 to $41per person for year2005 which it shows an increase of more than 19%. For each increase a dollar in local public health spending, there were significant decreases in infant mortality rate (7 percent drop), deaths from cardiovascular disease (3% drop), deaths from diabetes (1.5% drop), and deaths from neoplasms (1% drop). -The 5% decrease in cardiovascular disease mortality required for local health agencies to spend, on average, an additional $350000 each year. In contrast, achieving the same reduction in deaths from cardiovascular disease by focusing on treatment and other traditional health care approaches would require an additional 27 primary care physicians in the average metropolitan community. To put this comparison in perspective, the median salary for a single primary care physician was $200000 in 2010 – as a result, 27 primary care physicians would cost nearly $6 million or more than 37 times the public health investment. -A follow-up to this study presented at the 2013 American Public Health Association Annual Meeting found that low-income communities experience the largest health and economic gains with respect to increases in local public health spending. Researchers again examined spending by local public health agencies to determine the specific types of communities that benefit most from additional public health investments. The study found that the health and economic effects of public health spending were 20-45% larger in low-income communities (bottom 20 percent) as compared to the average community. -Lower death rates and health care costs were seen especially in communities that allocated their public health funding across a broader mix of preventive services. -A 2011 Urban Institute study concluded that it is in the nation’s best interest from both a health and economic standpoint to maintain funding for evidence based public health programs that save lives and bring down costs. Researchers examined the financial costs and health ramifications of ignoring disease prevention. The American health awareness framework right now uses $238 billion for every year in abundance costs – characterized as the distinction between the expenses of look after individuals with preventable incessant illness and those without – to treat individuals with different types of diseases like diabetes, hypertension, coronary illness and stroke. More than a large portion of those expenses are financed through Medicare and Medicaid. Left unchecked, those overabundance costs would climb to $500 billion for every year by 2030, with about $300 billion financed by Medicare and Medicaid. By 2030, if flow patterns precede for constant illnesses among all people’s ages 55-65 years old, one-third will have hypertension, more than one quarter will have diabetes, more than 11 percent will have coronary illness, and almost two percent will have strokes. Comparable pervasiveness rate builds might be normal for people’s ages 65 years or more seasoned – specifically, more than 50% of persons in this age gathering will have diabetes mellitus or hypertension. These builds will influence open segment plan as well as private segment expenses and intensity as well. Slowing the rate of development of these endless ailments will spare lives and cash. For occurrence, cutting the rate of unending infection development by even five percent would spare Medicare and Medicaid six billion dollars for every year by 2030; cutting the rate of constant malady development by 25 percent would spare $26.2 billion for every year; and cutting the rate of constant ailment development by 50 percent would spare $48.9 billion for every year. -Investments in essential anticipation projects wont just help abate the constant illness rate, yet have likewise been demonstrated to lower private protection fetches and move forward investment gainfulness while lessening laborer non-appearance. Truth be told, reserve funds accomplished through counteractive action projects can altogether and rapidly exceed beginning, forthright speculations. A 2011 study distributed in Health Affairs demonstrated that a consolidation of three systems – growing wellbeing protection scope, conveying better preventive and incessant mind, and concentrating on group counteractive action is more viable at sparing lives and cash than executing any of these methodologies alone. Specialists tried each of the three procedures in an element recreation model of the United States wellbeing mind framework. The study found that while each of the three procedures recovery exists and enhance financial conditions, protection scope and therapeutic tend to perpetual conditions lead to expand in wellbeing expenses. Of the three, just those steps identified with aversion moderate the development in the predominance of infection and damage, reducing the interest on restricted essential forethought limit. -Adding group avoidance components, for example, lessening introduction to used smoke and offering more open doors for physical action to an extension of protection scope and therapeutic consideration could spare 90 percent more lives whats more decrease expenses by 20% inside 10 years; those figures ascent to 150% whats more 58%, individually, inside next 20 years. In 2008, Trust for Americas Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation discharged a report demonstrating that a venture of $10 for every individual yearly in demonstrated, group based open wellbeing projects could spare the United States more than $15 billion inside five years—a 6 billion return for each $1 per capita contributed. The report mainly focused around a model created via specialists at the Urban Institute and an audit of studies led by the New York Academy of Medicine – concentrated on group based ailment anticipation programs that dont oblige medicinal forethought. Extra findings included: 1- The $16 billion in funds would be spread through Medicare ($5 billion), Medicaid ($1.9 billion), and private payers ($9 billion). 2- Every state in the country would be suffering because of potential profit for venture inside that five-year period, going from a rate of 3.7 to 1 at the low end to 9.9 to 1 on the high end. What is the estimation of a solid open wellbeing framework? The responses are truly surrounding us: circulating everywhere we inhale, the water we drink, the sustenance we consume, and the spots where we live, learn, work and play. This current years main topic for ROI, Efficient Public Health is ROI: Save Lives, Save Money, highlights the quantifiable profit, or ROI, that open wellbeing projects and administrations convey in securing our wellbeing and decreasing therapeutic expenses from infections that could be anticipated. If we realize that putting $10 for every individual every year in group based with wellbeing exercises programs then could spare more than twenty billion dollars for next five years? That means it is simply returned more than six billion dollars for each dollar per person contributed by ROI program. Furthermore that is simply the outcome of an efficient ROI plan. In addition, routine kids’ vaccinations save $10 million in immediate health preventive expenses, spare 33,000 lives and keep 14 million instances of sickness. However, with spare of each $1 per person to provide preventive resource budget like into the countrys drug abuse prevention then the public health officials could spares more than fifteen dollars in medicinal expenses and treatment and in the end gainful policy by local ROI, an aggregate of more than two billion dollars brings consistently. Another outcome with efficient ROI is related to preventive measure and AIDS diseases. During years 1995-2005, speculations regarding of HIV control by counteractive actions turned away more than 400,000 new infected individuals and spared more than hundred billion in therapeutic expenses. For smoking preventive measure then using of smart ROI which is fitted to the community size and culture, could be bring more than three dollars saving cost for each one dollar contributed to public health budget. And for illicit drug prevention treatment has an ROI of six dollars for every one dollar invested for preventive programs. References: Bodenheimer, T. (1999). A Plan to Invest in Real Estate Despite the Recession Essay -- Real Es

The Great Recession has shuffled the deck of playing cards. Seasoned investors and first-time home buyers alike have been hit – and hit hard. The challenging and volatile real estate market has created a flood of distressed asset sales all across the nation. However, the flipside to the coin of disaster and distress is almost always opportunity. Now that I have acquired $150,000 in cash to purchase distressed real estate, my detailed strategy below outlines exactly how I will personally benefit, and perhaps more importantly, how the community I invest in will benefit. First I will outline the basics: what I would buy with the cash (distressed apartments), where I would buy (San Jose, CA), how I would buy (my investment strategy) and why I would buy (a personal profit analysis). Then, I will outline my plan to pay it forward – to translate my newfound experience to help other first-time investors safely and knowledgably purchase their own distressed assets. I will add value to the community through a three-pronged approach of live seminars, online outreach, and a mentorship program. PERSONAL BENEFIT What to Buy: Distressed Apartments To properly understand how I would invest the $150,000 for personal profit and community benefit, we must first understand what I would buy. While there are a plethora of distressed real estate assets on the market, from single family homes to multi-tenant retail centers, I believe the most feasible and simplest starting place for a first-time investor is residential apartments, one to four units. For most people, buying a home and renting it out, or buying a fourplex and renting it out is not as farfetched as buying the local distressed strip mall. One to four unit rentals are not only easy... ... of 20.34%. However, the community will be the real winner as I implement my three-pronged community contribution campaign of Live Seminars, Online Outreach, and a Mentorship Program. My plan will create a strong momentum of first time investors purchasing distressed assets and repairing the deferred maintenance. This grassroots movement will focus on repairing distressed assets and safe investment practices. It will create new demand for distressed assets, reversing the downward spiral of prices for such assets. It will also prevent future distressed asset meltdowns by teaching safe investing practices. Are Humans Innately Evil or Good? Essay

Humans are a very fascinating species. We have been ruling the Earth for quite a while now. This is because we brood over all our necessities, skills and looks. The question of if we are innately evil or good has been asked by numerous people since civilization. Everyone has had different opinions. Two famous philosophers by the names of Thomas Hobbes and John Locke have been known to answer this question in a brief and direct way. Thomas Hobbes and John Locke have lived between the years of 1500-1700’s in Europe. Locke was an English philosopher, political theorist, and found of Empiricism. They both have clashing and different opinions, but in my opinion I would have to agree with John Locke. Locke was born on August 29, 1632 in Wrington, England. He died on October 28, 1704. He was best known as an English philosopher and the author of Essay Concerning Human Understanding. Every human being is born good, they have a clean record, and they don’t know anything. Originally we were all in a state of nature. Parents, friends, relatives, societies, and the community influence us to do what they do. As we tend to grow up we will see murdering, stealing, taking drugs, and fighting all around us. Things like money and material possessions create jealousy and greed. Even if people are naturally good, the fact that some people have more than others creates problems. For example if one person is more rich than the other, the other person may at one point get jealous, and may perhaps do some unscrupulous things to the person, like steal from them, hate on them etc. We never knew about any of the bad things in the world, and neither did our ancestors. They were never natural instinctive traits. I think that Locke believed that humans are innately good because he probably grew up in a good neighborhood and had a good experience growing up. If one grows up in a very beautiful, safe, and well-mannered community and family, obviously they will do what their surrounding do, which is to do good. On the other hand, if one grows up to live in an incapacitated family and environment, he will tend to become evil, they will first watch and then they will mimic those same traits. Even though they do all of this, we humans will still have our conscience to tell us that what we are about to do is stupid or immature and we will regret it later on. Why would we bother setting up cities, going about helping others, reviewing where planet earth sits in its ability to survive if he didn’t want these things to do well? Sure there are people round that make it bad for all the others of us trying to do good, but weigh it up and you’ll see that only a small percentage of people are out to pull the curtain down on everyone else. If us humans were born evil, then why when we do the bad things that we do in life still feel the guilt and regret for it afterwards? Obviously the answer to this is because we aren’t evil; we just get influenced to become evil. In conclusion every single human was born good and even if they do get influenced to become evil they will still have all the regret, conscience, guilt, repentance, and shame on their shoulders to carry.

In addition, contributing an economic option to a YouTube channel is a simple method of bringing customers to a w ebsite and purchase apparel and accessories that they recently viewed in the social video. This is Dolce and Gabbana’s luxury cursor (Vivanco 41). Dolce and Gabbana branded a YouTube channel that permits a video-instilled experience that incorporates rich factors of narration, appropriateness, and marketing for ecommerce through elegant banners. Browsing through these videos with a cursor also highlights the video title and other information. Dolce and Gabbana’s used to employ digital efforts with a range of objectives in mind in the course of the second quarter of 2012. Nonetheless, it is definite that email, site, and social media are more overbea ring to a contemporary promotion plan in 2013 than 2012 (Vivanco 107). Eventually, these efforts can make a 360-degree brand message stronger than other brands. Italian fashion brand Dolce and Gabbana recently retooled its YouTube channel to give the appearance and experience a lift of the brand world. The organization managed to make these changes by applying stylish artistic and clear journalistic lines, per Dolce and Gabbana (Vivanco 109). The Dolce and Gabbana YouTube channel runs on featured motion pictures, collections, movements, splendor, friends and occasions, visions and accessories. Dolc e and Gabbana’s operations are highly dependent on economic fluctuations. As a result, Dolce and Gabbana has greater sales when the market settings are improved and vice versa than when the market is in turmoil (Vivanco 161). Dolce and Gabbana faces strong rivalry from other luxury brands such as Louie Vuitton and Gucci. Opportunities Dolce and Gabbana has an expanding market in the luxury section in financial systems such as India and China (Vivanco 166). Dolce and Gabbana has commodity and services growth across the globe. Dolce and Gabbana has a high innovation rate in commodities. Threats Dolce and Gabbana faces a lot of robust rivals competing in terms of creativity, elegance, and stylishness. Dolce and Gabbana Future The designers of Dolce and Gabbana may have to reduce their anger when it comes to deali ng with rivalry and media controversies (Roberts 2013). This is because Dolce and Gabbana has a record of poor public relations, which is a disadvantage for a company trying to penetrate new markets (Vivanco 185). Dolce and Gabbana has a record of poor public relations because the organization was forced to close stores in Milan in july 2013 because of public criticism (Roberts 2013). Unburdened Love by Edgar Allen Poe †Literature Essay

Unburdened Love by Edgar Allen Poe – Literature Essay Free Online Research Papers Unburdened Love by Edgar Allen Poe Literature Essay Although death happens all around us all the time, that does not make it any easier to handle it. Some people handle it with much ease while others can’t do much of anything for a long time. A common thing to happen is for someone act grief-stricken when they really are not because they feel that is what they are supposed to do. That is just what has happened in the poems â€Å"Annabel Lee â€Å"by Edgar Allen Poe and Theodore Roethke’s â€Å"Elegy for Jane†. These men both had people close to them die and they wrote about it but the ways in which they got that done are different. In â€Å"Annabel Lee† Edgar Allen Poe writes in a way that makes you feel as if you have lost a loved one by going into such detail about his love, while it seems that Theodore Roethke is trying to force his sorrow in â€Å"Elegy for Jane†. Edgar Allen Poe’s poem talks of a love that is so strong it even makes the angels in Heaven jealous, â€Å"The angels, not half so happy in Heaven, / Went on envying her and me –† (728, 21). You are able to see with this sentence how much they cared for one another, for to make angels envious is no simple task. Roethke on the other hand is writing about a student who died and by no chance am I saying that one life was more valuable than the other but rather that Poe cared for Annabel Lee more. Because of this Poe has much more emotion in his poem. Roethke’s poem is filled with sorrow; although Poe is as well his has love in his as well. It seems that Roethke definitely cared for Jane he even may have loved her, but Poe and Annabel Lee loved each other. While Poe and Roethke’s poem are similar in the sense that they both wrote about people they have lost, it seems that even though Poe’s wife is dead he will never stop loving her as he does now. â€Å"And neither the angles in Heaven above, / Nor the demons down under the sea, / Can ever dissever my soul from the soul / Of the beautiful Annabel Lee –† (728, 30). While Roethke does not have any of those, for he was â€Å"Neither father nor lover.†(839, 22) Roethke’s poem is mainly filled with him describing Jane; he does this because he wants you to picture her as he did. While Poe does nothing of the sort because he knows that no one will ever to be able to picture Annabel Lee as he does. Roethke’s poem is very impersonal almost as if he was given a topic he did not enjoy and was told to write on it. He refers to Jane as a â€Å"skittery pigeon† (839, 19) it does not seem appropriate that you would refer to a lost love as a pigeon, which are considered pests. It is not only that one line, the whole poem is very depressing; obviously it is on death which is of course a naturally sad topic, especially when it is a child who dies. But instead of honoring her life he describes how when she was sad she wouldn’t talk to anyone. These are not the last things that you want someone to remember about a lost love, you want them to remember the good times not the bad ones. You are able to see Poe’s love for Annabel Lee jumping off the pages in his poem, for he only talks good about her, he talks about how an angel of the highest order coveted her and it is because of this that she is gone. But he still has her with him; let it be in his dreams or when the stars rise. Roethke does not have any of that, he talks of wanting to nudge Jane out of her sleep but that is it. The difference between the two poems is that when Annabel Lee dies a part of her stays with Poe, but when Jane dies Roethke is left with really nothing emotionally and he does not truly understand why that is. He feels that he is not respecting her death and goes about mourning her, to the point that he almost makes a mockery of it all. It is not that he does not care but he is trying to hard. He is trying to mourn her as if it were his wife or his child but because she is not, she is just his student he can’t get himself to truly do it. Poe does not try to do any of that, he just stays true to himself and it really shows in his poem. Both of these people wrote their poems in order to show themselves how much they cared about their deceased and they did just that. But I feel that Roethke didn’t necessarily get the outcome that he had hoped for. The rules contain criteria for the alteration of the authorization requirement by an IRB or another review body called a Privacy Board. This works well for a study in which one does not wish to follow all the tiresome steps. The use of war victims in the recent past as test subjects without their consent or that of their families has led to a public outcry. Consequently, the rule on right to fair treatment and protection from harm was created. In the medical study one considers that the subjects are human and therefore avoids causing harm to them. Macklin (2004) notes that there are a number of marginalized populations where the rules of ethical treatment and legal actions are not followed. Such include case studies of Ebola in Central Africa and other areas close by. The application of the HIPAA rules can be achieved through incorporation of the basic rules in the recent studies by creating a compiled set of ground rules to follow in the study

Men and Masculinity Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Men and Masculinity - Essay Example The essay "Men and Masculinity" will analyze the perception developed and expressed in association with masculinity. In the first stage of the paper, there will be the discussion on the power and gains in social heights with respect to a positive perception of masculinity. The application of masculinity should not always be considered as a vice but in consideration of its relevance in the society. There is also the evaluation of the responsibilities that are associated with pronounced masculinity. In the analysis of masculinity, the paper will connect the implication of masculinity in the younger generation and how it manifests itself later in life. To express this manifestation, it will analyze a character in the movie Iron Man hence explaining why mature masculinity is a process rather than an event. The relevance in the relation between men and masculinity should be evaluated in the context of gender balance. In understanding, the concept of masculinity in men there should be the definition of its cause and effects. First, the body of a man is biologically built to be more muscular than the body of a woman, which gives the reason for the creation of the concept of masculinity. According to Blow (2012) evaluation and argues in his study, boys who cannot measure up to prescriptions that are dominant in masculinity are likely to be punished by his peers in quest of stripping him his mantle of masculinity. This well explains the existence of masculinity at the early age of a male child. The physical distinction gives way to labeling men as masculine. The audio podcast of Brett (2010), The Art of Manliness argues that good qualities are considered the advantages of the present masculinity attribution to men and the poor qualities are the disadvantages. Hence providing additional ideas on the concept of masculinity in terms of its implications on men. Furthermore, the audio podcast claims that the qualities of men can later on be incorporated to influence the society and other people. The idea of men being masculine alone does not bring any problem in the concept of masculinity but the result of this idea, which leads to stereotyping of men. The stereotyping of men as masculine in physical appearance and behavioral conduct later becomes an expectation of the society. The media give an image to men as muscular, emotionally and mentally tough, hard drinker, and other characteristics associated with strength and power (McCarry, 2007). As a result, the public has accepted this representation to the standard of masculinity. Another res earch done by Caroline (2009) connects the relevance of masculinity in relation to gender, economic, social, and political development of the society. She further argues that masculinity cannot be neglected in terms of

A typical day for a cabin crew on a long haul flight Essay Example for Free

A typical day for a cabin crew on a long haul flight Essay This report will acknowledge you about a typical day for a cabin crew on a long haul flight. Of course it may vary time to time because all airlines are different.  The night before the flight, as a cabin crew, you must pack your suitcase for the flight and to know what clothes you should bring, you should check the weather in the destination you are flying to. You must make sure your uniform is clean and neat, you bring all documents with you and it is very important to review SEP questions before going to the pre-flight briefing. Also you must check your airline website where you will find information about your position (e.g Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4) and other flight info such as departure time, flight number, estimated duration of the flight and crew information. Another important thing is to decide how you are going to get to the airport and how much time it will take you to get there, so you will not be late. Pre-flight briefing All cabin crew members will have a meeting with their ISM, senior crew and other cabin crew members before the flight. During this meeting you will be given information about the flight, your role on the aircraft, information about meals and drinks, if there are any passengers who need extra assistance and also you will be asked some health and safety questions. Before boarding Before boarding you must make sure you have all important documents such as ID card and passport with you. Once you are on board, you must do a full safety check of a cabin to make sure nothing suspicious has been left onboard and also check if all safety equipment (such as first aid kit, PBE) is on place and correct. Check if there are enough meals and supplies for the number of passengers onboard. Finally check the toilets for security and that they are stocked up with necessities. When you finished, you must do a report to crew that you have finished all checks. PAX boarding When boarding for passengers started, cabin crew must greet the passengers, check their boarding passes, direct them to their seat and help them find space for their luggage. Passengers must put their hand luggage in the overhead compartment or under their seat. If the luggage is too heavy it must be put in the cargo. After boarding on the aircraft finished, it is time to do a safety demo, where you let the passengers know how to use their seatbelt, oxygen mask and life jacket and also to inform them where the floor lighting is that will guide them to the nearest exit. After that you do your final checks and you must ensure that all luggage is correctly stowed away, seatbelts are fastened and the cabin is ‘secure’. When you will receive a message from a captain, cabin crew must take their seat for take-off. After take-off Once the aircraft is airborne and the seatbelt signs have been switched off, you can start the in-flight service. This will differ from airline to airline and depending on whether all items are sold or are free as part of the service. You must prepare for cocktail service, put you meals and food on the trolley. Also, the service will be different if your airline has business or first class. During this time, you will also check the toilets for security and cleanliness and also deal with any passenger enquiries or first aid. Also during the long haul flight you will be given some time to rest. Landing and disembark PAX When it is time to land, once again you will do checks that all seatbelts are fastened and all luggage is stowed and cabin is ‘secure’ and ready for a safe landing. Once this is complete is time to return to your crew seat. Once all passengers have left the aircraft, you must do a cabin safety check to make sure that passenger did not leave their documents, mobile phones or any valuable stuff onboard. It is important to do this check to make sure that nothing suspicious has been left onboard. Also you cabin crew must complete some documentation, such as cash summary and flight report. Summary After reading this report you will have an idea of how looks like a typical day for a cabin crew on a long haul flight.

Babbit Essay -- Essays Papers

Babbit The depressing tragedy known as Babbitt, by Lewis Sinclair, accurately portrays the convention of life in the 1920’s. Sinclair precisely evokes the conformity and orthodox life styles that shaped a growing culture. Man, in the 1920’s, is caught in a lifestyle where he is continually fed on what to think. Lewis cunningly explains the constraints of convention that plagued George Babbitt, and mocks society as a whole for its lack of liberal views. Babbitt throughout the novel seems to be trapped in a maze, and is told by â€Å"the machine† when to turn. Only when Babbitt revolts against conservative America does his life change, but the question is was it for the better? The economy is booming with success, and your wealth portrays ones position in society. George Babbitt is infatuated with having the latest â€Å"gadgets† and technology in his home, as is the rest of Middle-class America. Lewis portrays society as a group of self-centered people who must have the best of everything (sounds similar to our world today). Middle-class America is disturbingly the same to the last detail in the 1920’s. Life begins for Babbitt waking up to an unappreciative family, and a typical fake show of affection from his wife. Babbitt realizes his life is dull and mundane. Even the kiss from his wife is typical. Babbitt, like most men in the 1920’s, finds his home not as a haven but as a depressing reality of what his life has really become. Babbitt recognizes he is disgusted with his life, and that he doesn’t even love his wife. Only when Babbitt escapes his home does he find satisfaction. Babbitt is found in his community as a role mode l of every businessmen, even the mechanic at the gas station commends him for organization. Babbitt temporarily feels relief when freedom encompasses his life, but later in the novel Babbitt illustrates that even â€Å"business† is shaped by society. Just as business is shaped in Zenith, so are the women who live there. Women in the novel are accurately portrayed as they were in the 1920’s. Lewis presents two different scenarios in the novel, but both of these cases can follow the same mannerisms. First, Lewis depicts the loving housewife. Myra, Babbitt’s wife, continually comforts Babbitt throughout the whole novel. Myra even accepts the blame when Babbitt decides to cheat on her. Women are depicted throughout the novel as inferior when... ...e hand of social order is telling them this is â€Å"ok.† That is why liberal views in Zenith are so quickly extinguished. The superior class wants people to think that there always must be a lower class because that is the way God has planned it, which in retrospect sustains their rank as the higher class forever. It’s ironic that this idea is still relevant today. In conclusion, Babbitt’s revolt toward society had actually changed nothing. He went back to not loving his wife and continuing his job as a realtor. His popularity recovers from his era of revolt. Babbitt regains his place in the world by allowing society to influence his life. He stops fighting and this is the simple reason why his life is a tragedy. How does Babbitt analyze the successfulness of his life? He never took complete control and experienced freedom in any of his actions. He only valued the acceptance of others, rather than what was true to his heart. Babbitt life had no meaning, since he constantly let the constraints of society shape it. One must wonder if society in the 1920’s could have changed by reading this novel. This is not probable, considering that society is the same today as it was 80 years ago.

Dead Man Walking Essay examples -- essays research papers

Dead Man Walking   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The film â€Å"Dead Man Walking† is a film about redemption. The film is directed by Tim Robbins. Susan Sarandon plays a Nun called Sister Helen Prejean. She is asked by a convicted murderer to get him a lawyer, and then later is asked to be his spiritual advisor. The convicted killer is named Matthew Poncelet, and he is played by Sean Penn. The film is set in the Angola state penitentiary, in Louisiana. Matthew Poncelet first asks her to get him a lawyer so he can repeal his Death sentence. Sister Helen gets him a lawyer, but they fail after several good attempts to get him off death row. Sister Helen begins to come to him almost every day after Poncelet asks her to be his spiritual advisor on the day of his death. During this phase of the film Sister Helen tries to get Poncelet to tell her about his own life. Poncelet tells her about his life and why he was put on death row. Poncelet was convicted along with another man in the murder of the youth and a girl after raping the girl. Sister Helen is very sympathetic and is also looked down upon for this reason. Though she is repressed she still goes on helping Poncelet and she digs around in his feelings and soul. Sister Helen eventually finds a good soul in Matthew Poncelet, a person no one else knows. Matthew constantly denies to Sister Helen, himself, and to God that he had committed his horrible crime. Poncelet continues to blame his problems on other things such as his father dying early in his life, his drug use, his immaturity, and that he was unable to stand up to his partner in the brutal crime. Sister Helen urges Poncelet to come clean and face the part that he took in the crime. And at nearly the last minutes of the film he tells the truth. Though he tells the truth of his sin, he is still put to death by lethal injection.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The purpose of this film, I believe, was to show that capital punishment is not right in all circumstances, but the redemption and preservation of the human soul being better. Tim Robbins tried to show how most people and even more accurate, Christian people tend to always want vengeance for a crime. Most of them have a line from the old testament committed to memory, â€Å"An eye for an eye,† is what they always want to say. But it really confuses me. To me that saying is not clear, if you think about it, i... ...n church. I read the Bible, though not as much as I should, but the â€Å"Eye for an Eye part has always confused me. If the Bible states, â€Å"Thou shall not kill,† then why does it justify the killing of a person who has killed before. I believe that God loves all his children. If people are really followers of Christ, they will learn from him how to forgive people for their faults and mistakes during life. If the people in the film would have stopped and though what it would be like to be in Poncelet’s shoes, maybe they would feel different about the death penalty. He was in jail facing lethal injection. I’m sure if they thought about it they would not want to be killed, but then the people who Poncelet had killed did not have a choice, they had death forced on them. This film does a great job of showing both sides of the capitol punishment controversy. I can see how people think killing someone who has killed is a good thing. It keeps the person off the streets and from killing again. Though is it really justice? I still believe that people can be evil, but people can also be cleansed. I believe this film has a dramatic point, and the purpose is pretty clear to anyone who may watch it.

Therapeutic Hypothermia for Cardiac Arrest Patients

Therapeutic Hypothermia for Cardiac Arrest Jaime Bromley Jefferson College of Health Sciences Hypothermia is a decrease in the core temperature below 35 degrees Celsius or 95 degrees Fahrenheit. There are various medical uses for hypothermia. Therapeutic hypothermia is the only proven effective treatment for post cardiac arrest patients. Hypothermia decreases the amount of cerebral oxygen needed and also lessens the inflammatory response post cardiac arrest. This prevents brain damage and death in patients. There were two major studies done on this topic. One in Europe and one in Australia; they showed very positive outcomes for the patients who were treated with therapeutic hypothermia. More of the patients who received the hypothermic treatment survived compared to those who did not; also patients treated with hypothermia had less brain damage upon hospital discharge. Sudden cardiac arrest is a major health concern in the United States; there are more than 400,000 incidents annually (AHA, 2011).Only five to thirty percent of patients survive hospitalization and make it to hospital discharge (AHA, 2011). Doctors are now discovering the highly effective treatment of doctor induced hypothermia for cardiac arrest patients. Hypothermia is defined as a decrease in the core body temperature below 35 degrees Celsius or 95 degrees Fahrenheit (Ward, 2011). It is then characterized by whether it occurred accidentally or if it was induced purposefully. There are multiple uses for medically induced hypothermia.Doctor induced hypothermia is the most effective therapeutic treatment for out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest patients suffer from ischemic brain injury leading to poor neurologic outcomes and death. Doctors will begin to cool patients as soon as recirculation begins. Therapeutic hypothermia works by decreasing the cerebral oxygen consumption. During cardiac arrest circulation does not occur, therefor the vital organs are not adequately perfused. W hen resuscitation happens circulation resumes and reperfusion occurs.Reperfusion is associates with free radical formation (AHA, 2011). Mild hypothermia blocks intracellular effects from high calcium concentrations and lessens the inflammatory response after cardiac arrest (Ward, 2011). In 2002 the results of two randomized trials were published that compared mild hypothermia with normothermia in comatose survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. One study was done in five European countries; the other was conducted in four hospitals in Australia (University of Chicago, 2008).In the European study the patients were cooled to the target range of 32 to 34 degrees Celsius (University of Chicago, 2008). They were kept at that temperature for 24 hours, and then passive warming would begin (University of Chicago, 2008). Six months after cardiac arrest 75 of the 137 hypothermic patients had positive results; and were able to live independently and able to work (University of Chicago, 20 08). Whereas with the normothermia patients only 54 of the 137 patients survived six months after their cardiac arrest (University of Chicago, 2008).With the Australian study the patients were cooled to 33 degrees Celsius, kept at that temperature for 18 then active rewarming would begin (University of Chicago, 2008). The results of the Australian study, 21 of the 43 patients treated with hypothermia had good neurological function at discharge compared to nine of 34 patients who were normothermic post cardiac arrest (University of Chicago, 2008). There are various techniques used to cool patients; currently there is not one technique that stands out over the rest in ease of use and high efficiency. Before the cooling procedure can begin the patient is given a sedative and a neuromuscular blocker to prevent shivering. There are multiple external techniques such as cooling blankets, ice packs, wet towels, and a cooling helmet; however all of these are slow to cool core temperature (Uni versity of Chicago, 2008). An intravascular heat exchange device has recently become available; this machine enables rapid cooling and precise temperature control (University of Chicago, 2008).During the whole cooling and rewarming process the patient is closely monitored and their temperature is taken regularly. Not every person who has sudden cardiac arrest is able to receive hypothermic therapy. There are multiple restrictions, and each hospital has its own protocol to follow. Some of the common exclusions are pregnancy, core temperature of less than 30 degrees Celsius post arrest, and known clotting disorders (AHA, 2011).In order to receive hypothermic treatment the patient must be at least 18 years of age, female patients must have a documented negative pregnancy test, cardiac arrest with return of spontaneous circulation, and the blood pressure can be maintained at 90mmHg (AHA, 2011). With the use of therapeutic hypothermia treatment many people have been given a second chance at life. Doctors and scientists are making great strides in refining the technique needed to successfully treat patients with hypothermic therapy. Ward, J. 2011). [ 1 ] Bhangra dance began as a common people dance conducted by Punjabi Sikh husbandmans ( Jatts ) to observe the coming of the crop season. The specific moves of Bhangra reflect the mode in which villagers farmed their land. This dance art further became synthesized after the divider of India. when refugees from different parts of the Punjab shared their common people dances with persons who resided in the parts they settled in.
